A photographic account of heavy music in Portland, Maine

PHOTOS: Clash of the Titans: Megadeth vs. Pantera

"By the slimmest of mahgins ... Pantera!"

“By the slimmest of mahgins … Pantera!”

By the slimmest of margins, Pantera beat Megadeth last night at Empire.

But we were all winners at the latest installment of the Clash of the Titans series. We especially liked the red spotlight on “Dave Mustaine,” illuminating Kyle Jongerden’s hair, his uncanny facial expressions and well studied wardrobe. Zeke Price’s performance as Phil Anselmo was equally astute, capturing Anselmo’s perpetually sleepy eyes and offering impeccable stage banter in NOLA timbre that sounded like he’d just gargled an entire pack of burning cigarettes.

Next week’s Clash is an intriguing pair: Ween vs. Cake. It’s not exactly within our coverage area, but we might just bend the rules for this matchup. And don’t forget the Halloween party at Space and a gnarly show at Geno’s on Saturday.

Full-resolution photos are here. If you borrow these images for Facebook or whatnot, please credit us. (Watermarking sucks and we don’t wanna do it.) Also, don’t crop or alter.

Yes, we’re monsters.
